Innersense Hair Review: The Real Deal!

If you are looking to make the switch to more natural hair care products, you will definitely want to read my Innersense hair review first. In this post, I am also going to chat about why natural hair care products are important, what to look for and what to avoid. So let's get right to this Innersense hair review!When I first made the switch to natural haircare products years ago, I tried a few different brands before I finally found one that I truly loved.  Enter, Innersense! I have been hearing about this brand for a while, so I was excited to finally be able to get it in Canada and share with you my Innersense hair review.

Before I jump into the actual Innersense hair review, I want to share a bit more on why you want to look for natural hair products in the first place. 

Why Natural Hair Products?

So maybe you are under the impression that what you use to wash your hair doesn't matter because it is just going to end up going down the drain. But, it is actually important to use safe products that actually work to strengthen and leave your hair looking amazing. Many of the ingredients in conventional hair products contain harsh ingredients that strip your hair and once you stop using them you can begin to notice bigger problems. I'll get to those specific ingredients later.When you use truly natural and organic products like Innersense you will begin to notice a difference in how your hair looks and feels.Traditionally, when we use conventional shampoo and conditioner we are accustomed to that slick, soft "clean" feeling. But, this is all surface. That clean, smooth feeling is really just ingredients that are left on the hair compared to your hairs actual condition. When you stop using these kinds of products, you begin to realize that this surface level clean feeling is not all its cracked up to be.

What Ingredients to Avoid in Your Hair Products:

Sulfates: Most hair products proudly state they are now sulfate free. It is really important to avoid this ingredient as it is extremely harsh on your hair and scalp. This means it can strip away the natural moisture that keeps your hair shiny and soft. It may also contain hormone disrupting agents and traces of dioxane, a known carcinogen.Parabens: These are known as xenoestrogenswhich means that they have a similar composition to hormones found in the human body. Xenoestrogens are thought to disrupt hormones and could even pose a cancer risk.

Fragrance: When it comes to this term, it can mean big trouble!The term “fragrance” allows manufacturers to opt out of including a list of the ingredients used to create that fragrance (known as a trade secret in the industry), as the term is not regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.Triclosan: This is thought to be an endocrine disruptor, which means it can be harmful in the same fashion as xenoestrogens.

Polyethylene Glycol (PEG): This is thought to interfere with human development and also can be contaminated with dioxane.

  • Made with coconut and rice bran oils and other natural plant sources, to create a kind, gentle bath for the hair and scalp. Sunflower seed oil, a natural antioxidant, helps to preserve your hair color and add shine.
  • The ingredients in all of the Innersense products are processed using cold pressed and distilled methods to maintain their purity.
  • I have been using this for the past three years now and love the way it makes my hair feel and look.

How to Use it:

  • It lathers quite well when applied to wet hair.
  • First, make sure your hair is very wet. Then apply to roots and lather well using your hands to massage it into your scalp.
  • I do two washes with it because I tend to get buildup and I have A LOT of hair. So I wash it once, rinse and then wash it again.

  • It's super thick (but lightweight)works really well to leave your hair feeling soft and looking shiny, without anything synthetic.
  • Ingredients like quinoa, avocado and rice bran oils moisturize and strengthen your hair, meaning less frizzies!
  • Shea butter helps to soften and hydrate your hair, while providing lots of moisture for curl support.

How to Use It:

  • Use only a small amount so your hair doesn't feel weighed down.

Hydrating Hair Masque:

  • I've been using this hair masque for a little while now and I like using it especially in the summer when I find my hair gets more unruly (think Monica Geller from Friends).
  • I like to leave it in my hair after shampooing for as long as I can. And when I rinse it out, my hair feels so much softer.
  • It does a fairly good job at hydrating my hair, which is extra dry in the summer.

I Create Waves, Sea Salt Spray:

  • This is a great sea salt spray made with Himalayan pink salt and a generous dose of amethyst crystal (so fancy).
  • It helps to create really soft, touchable waves and has aloe vera and calendula which help to nourish dry hair.
  • The way that I like to use it is two ways.
  • The first is when I first wash my hair, I like spraying it at the root while it is still damp and then blow drying like normal. This gives it a little extra volume at the top.
  • The second is when my hair is acting a little crazy due to the humidity and is naturally wavy, I spritz some in my dry hair to give it a nicer looking wave.

I've tried other sea salt sprays in the past, but I like this one the best now.

That Hair Detox Period:

While working at The Detox Market, I heard a lot from women that they couldn't find a clean shampoo to use because it never left their hair feeling "clean" and it didn't lather. Or after using it, their hair feels oily, a sign that your shampoo is messing with the natural pH of your hair. This is most likely due to your hair detoxing from the conventional products you are used to using. Remember your hair is used to that "clean" feeling which is really just harsh ingredients that strip your hair and so when you make the switch your hair can freak out a bit. It is used to being more dried out and then overcompensating by producing more oil to nourish your hair.

It takes about 6-8 weeks for your hair to go through this detox phase, but stick with it! I promise, the end results are so worth it. Also, try not to wash your hair everyday, not only is it unnecessary it could also damage your hair. For reference, I only wash my hair about twice a week and I do hot yoga throughout the week, its all good! I use dry shampoo in between as needed.

Absolutely LOVE this recipe - it's delicious (especially for those that like a hint of spice)!! My finance and I are obsessed and it's become part of our weeknight recipe rotation. It has a limited number of ingredients, it's quick to make/cook, but despite all of that - looks and tastes like much more time was spent! Thanks for the great recipe Jaclyn!

I made this yesterday and HOLY MOLY it hit the spot!!! It’s been so hot and muggy out here, so I was craving something light, cool, and filling. This recipe did not disappoint. The flavor of the peanut sauce was delicious. It had been a while since I prepared something with such color and flavor, which made eating it that much better. Yep, they firmed up nicely. I'm freezing four, and looking forward to having the other four, dressed with sauerkraut, pickles, mustard, vegan mayo, onions, banana chiles, and maybe even ketchup. Yum!

Well I ended up baking them for 23 minutes (@400F). They're delicious! A bit soft, but I'm hoping they'll firm up when they cool. Texture is good too. Thanks for this!

Seems like a good and tasty recipe. But I had to add a generous half cup of water to get any kind of movement in the food processor. I substituted flax seeds for hemp (what I had). The mixture was a bit loose because of the water, but still formed nicely into patties. Baking for 15 min at 400F. Looking forward to them!

Hi Roxanne! So for the meatballs photos with feta, I just used regular olive oil. But for the one photo with the red looking oil, that was olive oil mixed with fried green onions and Aleppo pepper. Make these now! Once you buy your ingredients, this is the easiest recipe to execute...it's so hands off! I started the beef in the instant pot an hour before we wanted to eat and prepped the toppings while all of that was cooking. I used stewing beef and a home-made taco seasoning. I didn't have any beef broth so I used half of a bouillon cube - worked just fine! The enchilada sauce was store bought (Frontera brand) and it was delicious. Highly recommend the Monteray jack cheese - I used some Violife mozzarella that I happened to have at home but I can see how the sharp taste would add to the overall flavour.

Thanks for this! I came across this recipe very late in life, at a family meal. I liked it better than my mother's potato salad of my childhood, and better than my sister's which came from her in-laws. DH likes it very much. Win, win, win! Tip: if you don't want to steam up your summer kitchen nor fight the mosquitoes for the grill, pressure cook the potatoes!

The simplest recipe to make a delicious desert! I left out the cacao and just made vanilla coconut flavor and it was heavenly. I plan to add different flavors in the future; cacao with Orange or raspberry essence, vanilla salted, caramel flour de sel- the options are endless. Glad to find a keto friendly treat that can be made easily at home.

These were good! I've been curious to try making a miso dessert for a little while now, but wanted it to be grain free. I've found that almond flour based chocolate chip cookies always have some kind of nut butter, and since I just use peanut butter, it's like a PB cookie. The miso did a great job replacing nut butter and achieved a great, chewy consistency! It's definitely strong, although I'm sure white miso would have been more mild. I used dashi miso, which in hindsight sounds pretty gross.. the cookies were not at all fishy tasting, but just bold and kind of salty/savory. I think next time I'll try a little less miso. I have a tendency to use less sugar than a recipe calls for, but I definitely needed it in this one to balance the miso flavor. I just used regular butter too, not ghee.

This is the first cinnamon roll recipe i've actually gotten to work! I let the dough rest in the fridge for 4-5 hours and then rolled and filled it, then let it rest in the fridge over night and it worked great for an early morning bake. I looked through the whole recipe and you never mention what temperature to bake at. It just says "place in your preheated oven to bake" I baked at 350. Also it would be really nice if the caramel sauce recipe was included here. All in all totally delicious, worth the effort, and I will be making this again.
