Strawberry Peanut Butter Smoothie

Looking for a smoothie that tastes just like the classic flavours of peanut butter and jelly? This is IT! But not only does it taste just like a PB & J smoothie should, it's also loaded with some secret veggies too. Sneaky veggies like frozen romaine lettuce and cauliflower bump up the veggie content, but you won't taste it at all. They both blend right into this strawberry peanut butter smoothie seamlessly.

Ingredients You'll Need

To make this quick and easy strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie, here's what you'll need!

ingredients for smoothie
  • unsweetened almond milk (or other milk): any type of milk will work here.
  • Greek yogurt (or coconut yogurt): for a dairy-free version, use your favourite yogurt instead.
  • frozen strawberries
  • frozen banana
  • frozen cauliflower rice
  • romaine lettuce (chopped and frozen): buy fresh and then wash and dry it, chop it and place it in a sealed plastic bag in the freezer. This is going to be your new smoothie BFF - promise!
  • peanut butter (plus more for drizzling in glass)
  • vanilla protein powder (optional)

How to Make a Strawberry Peanut Butter Smoothie

This peanut butter and jelly smoothie couldn't be easier to make.

Simply combine all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until smooth.

Add more liquid if you need to get the consistency you like, I prefer a thicker smoothie.

Drizzle your glass with some peanut butter and then pour in the smoothie.

Garnish with a strawberry and drizzle on a little extra peanut butter. Enjoy!

Why You'll Love this Smoothie

I think you'll love this strawberry peanut butter smoothie for so many reasons, here are some of them.

  • Tastes SO delicious! I enjoyed this smoothie for a week straight, what can I say, once I get into something, I'm into it.
  • Quick and easy to make.
  • No fancy ingredients: the protein powder is optional, if you want an extra protein boost.
  • Great for a post workout and/or a quick breakfast during the week.

Substitutions

  • No banana: if you don't like banana or don't want to add it in, you can omit it. The smoothie won't be as creamy. Add more strawberries instead.
  • Dairy-free: use your favourite dairy-free yogurt
  • No frozen ingredients: use fresh instead. Frozen ingredients make smoothies colder and creamier.
  • No veggies: omit the cauliflower and romaine, but I promise, you don't really taste it much.
  • No protein powder: omit it, or use hemp seeds or chia seeds instead.
  • Peanut butter: use almond butter instead, or sunflower seed butter.

Tips to Make Smoothies Taste Their Best

No matter how simple a recipe is (like a smoothie recipe), sometimes it still takes a little bit of finessing to get it the way you want it. Everyone's tastes and preferences when it comes to food in general are different.

  • Too thick: I prefer smoothies on the thicker side, so feel free to adjust as you are blending by adding a splash more of milk to the smoothie.
  • Too thin: add more frozen berries or other fruit or chia seeds.
  • Not sweet enough: taste and adjust as needed by adding some maple syrup, honey, more banana or other fruits to the smoothie.
  • Add some toppings: drizzle more peanut butter on top, or add a crunchy topper to your smoothie, like granola, nuts or seeds.
  • Use a protein powder you like the taste of: if you're using a protein powder, use one you like. I've included my favourite ones below.

Protein Powder Options

Adding protein powder to this strawberry peanut butter smoothie is optional, but if you're looking to add one, here are a few of my favourites.

Which Blender Do I Use?

I've had my Vitamix for 10 years and I'm just as obsessed with it today as I was when I bought it. It's worth the price tag IMO if you use a blender a lot. I love it for making smoothies, soups, sauces and blender muffins.

This is the Vitamix I own and love.
