How to Make Baked Figs & Feta

Based on how gorgeous the final dish looks, you won't believe how easy this appetizer is to make.

Preheat the oven to 425℉.

Place the figs and grapes on a large baking sheet and toss with balsamic, 2 tbsps of the olive oil and half the honey. Transfer to the oven for eight minutes.

Remove the baking sheet and add the feta. Drizzle the feta with the remaining olive oil, honey and Aleppo pepper. Add the thyme to the baking sheet.

Place in the oven to bake for 15 minutes more, until the grapes have burst and the figs are jammy.

Remove the figs and grapes from the baking sheet and transfer to a serving dish/platter.

Turn the oven to broil (high) and transfer the baking sheet with the feta and broil for three to five minutes, until the feta has browned on top.

Transfer the feta to the serving dish with the grapes and figs. Drizzle the feta with a little more honey if needed. Garnish with flaky salt if desired.

Serve with baguette slices. Enjoy!

Tips

  • Use fresh figs: fresh, in-season figs will taste the best in this fig and feta recipe. Black mission figs are a great option as they're sweet and have a nice, deep, earthy flavour that pairs well with the feta.
  • Seedless grapes: I recommend using seedless grapes as they're much easier to eat once they are roasted and jammy.
  • Feta in brine: I prefer using a block of Greek feta in brine for this recipe.
  • Broil at the end: if you want the feta to look a little more browned and gorgeous, broil for a few minutes at the end. Or if you have a small kitchen torch, you can use that to darken the edges.

Which Type of Feta To Use?

This recipe works best with a traditional Greek feta in brine.

I prefer using a sheep or goat feta for this, but feel free to experiment with something else.

I don't recommend using crumbled feta as it will dry out too much.

Substitutions

  • Grapes: feel free to omit the grapes if you want, you can use all figs instead.
  • Honey: you can skip the honey drizzle if you prefer things less sweet. It does help caramelize everything and tastes great, but it's optional. Or use maple syrup instead.
  • Aleppo Pepper: this is a delicious spice that I use all the time, if you don't have it, feel free to use chili flakes instead. Chili flakes will be spicier.
